Cost of Dental Implants
“You get what you pay for”
It applies everywhere and is true in dentistry as well. This question is usually asked by most of the patients that what is the cost of dental implant treatment or why it is so expensive?
Throwing some light on this I would like to discuss a few important points. Patient conditions are not the same in relation to bone also availability of bone in different patient is different like width of bone, height of bone, quality of bone in relation to density, any systemic disease affecting bone, other systemic condition like diabetes, genetic factors and many more because quality of bone plays an important role in the success of dental implant so we have to consider all those parameters very seriously.
Age of patient is also a criterion in relation to the treatment results, it can delay the normal bone formation and resorption cascade.
Gender consideration should be important as there are hormonal changes which can be seen in females.
Cost–comparison with other treatment modalities. Dental implants are not costly if compared to other treatment options available like fpd (bridge). In bridge, we have to grind the adjacent teeth from which we are going to take support and mostly RCT (root canal treatment) is also mandatory to prevent future problems, after all this there is very less margin remains in both treatments then why to sacrifice enamel of adjacent teeth. On the other hand, an implant is like a lifetime but in other treatments, we have to do again and again or repeatedly after a few years though making them equal or costlier than dental implants.
Why cost is different at different dentists?
It all depends upon the experience of the dentist how much clinical experience he/she is having. The credentials of the dentist if the dentist is B.D.S. or M.D.S.. How many conferences and continuing dental education programs (cde). He/she attends to update himself/herself .if cost is less you must see the quality of material used and credentials of the dentist. If the advertisement is for low price dental treatment, then there are so many rumors behind this and you have to ask the right question. Most important thing is that no dentist can quote the cost of the treatment without clinical examination but on the basis of telephonic conversation and less cost of treatment sometimes we decide and choose the dentist. For long term treatment results, it is advisable to see a dentist with better credentials, better qualification, and clinical experience.
We as a patient should also keep a few things in mind like lab quality from which dentist is getting his work done, materials used during treatment like filling materials, bone grafts, etc.
The dental implant is a specialized treatment which depends upon credentials of the dentist, experience & quality of material used in the treatment.
